Sometimes my 17-35 squeaks when focusing. It only happens once in a while for a few cycles and then it works perfectly. I'm positive that if I sent it in for service it would behave perfectly so I'm wondering if this is a known issue and what the prognosis is.

Anyone run into this problem?

Happened to mine too. Intermittant squeaking. Cost me $400 to get it repaired, then I sold it for 750. Such a deal. If it doesn't bother you, and it still works, live with it.

The squeek is the focus motor, sometimes if they are cold or haven't been used for a while it may squeek for the first focus or two, this is fine. If it squeeks continuosly all the time, Nikon will replace the motor. That's the $400!

I /think/ that the 17-35 was one of the first AFS lenses, so an early problem. This is fairly well know with this lens.

If it's under warantee, get nikon to have a look at it for free :)
