I'm going to St Louis with the family for a long weekend in August

Can anyone recommend some places to take good pictures of the Arch and skyline in St Louis? Are there any other must see places - the transport museum looks intriguing.

  2. You can get great shots (weather permitting) from the Illinois side but be VERY VERY careful around East St Louis. The foot of the Eads Bridge on the IL side is great.
Take the kids to the Old Spaghetti Factory on 1st Street at the MO end of the Eads Bridge if I recall correctly.

The architecture in downtown StL is nice, gothic revival I think it's called.

Union Station is a hoot and Forest Park is nice for scenics and the zoo.

  3. For skyline shots head over to the Casino Queen in East St. Louis. From the parking lot walk your way to the river... you may have to pass a
Do Not Enter sign or two but it shouldn't be an issue. You'll be near some barge loading facilities.
This gives a nice view almost directly across from the Arch.

If you go North on HWY 3 a short way from that area there's a few other spots along the river.

As to the Arch grounds, bring a wide angle.

The Transport Museum is HIGHLY recomended if you like trains. One of my favorite places.
We have a fantastic botanical garden if you like that sort of thing and our zoo is world class (and FREE).

Thanks for the info. My little guy will enjoy the zoo (he's not into gardens yet). He can live off spaghetti for a weekend without blinking an eye. I'll post some shots when I return.

St Louis is a great place to visit - the dinosaur exhibit at the zoo was wonderful. The sundial image was taken in front of the Jewel Box in Forest Park, The engine was at the Transport museum and the steps at Cahokia mounds (all with D100 with 24-85 + polarizer)
