A member at another forum I frequent had the following stolen from his car on Friday night:

    Ipod 60gb
    Escort passport 8500 x50
canon 5D with BG + canon 30d with BG
    canon 50mm f1.2l
    canon 70-200 f2.8l
    canon 580ex II
    sandisk 16gb card

Keep a lookout at local shops in Illinois or any forums you frequent.

  5. Battery Grip (?)

  6. Ah, ok. Not knowing the Canon line and therefore which cameras take grips, I thought I'd ask.

Is it possible to list where his car was? If it was at his home, we obviously don't want his address, but if it was a public location, it would be nice to know the locale.

It's a sad state of affairs when this happens.
I know the feeling all to well ! It happened to me last November.
My homeowners took care of me, I hope your friends will take care of him.
Its unfortunate but you really have to be on guard at all times!

  12. I know how this feels, a few years ago, our house was broken into and over $30,000 worth of gear stolen (TV Bose etc), and would you believe all my booze... How low can some people get.....

But worst of all, they took all my Nikon film gear and lenses but left or just missed all my Olympus film gear (OM4, Zukio and Tamron lenses etc). What a bunch of sleaze bags, they either had style about what camera gear they wanted or just didn't see the other bag.... I suppose I can laugh about it now, but at the time I was ready to kill.... When they catch these low lives they should... well I wont go into that, this isn't the place......

The break-in was at Woodfield Mall.

Apparently he was able to claw through some of the Allstate layers and is now getting some assistance.

Thanks for the information, now knowing that it was in the western suburbs, maybe some of our membership will have ideas where this gear may turn up.

  16. Great point Frank of trying to identify the location so that the folks in that area can keep an ear to the ground. Good looking out!

  17. After my recent theft, I learned a lot about insurance.

If they break into your car and steal your gear, it is covered under your homeowner's policy.

If they steal your car AND your gear, then it is covered by your automobile policy.

I'm still battling with insurance after 6 weeks!!
