Strange behavior of "Finder"

I have a folder on an external (USB) drive connected to my iMac which shows in ViewNX2 but is not visible under "Finder". Any idea how that could happen?

Open Finder and go to preferences. Select Sidebar and make sure all options are checked under Devices. Not sure if that will help but it's a start.

Thanks, Mark, but that is not the problem. I've discovered that it only hides that folder in "Icon" view. It shows it in all other views.

Interesting idea, but that drive has never been attached to anything but the iMac.

I certainly am. Used unix terminal windows for many years writing and debugging FORTRAN, but it's been a while.

Did you try to do an "arrange by"? I am guessing the icon is just behind another one in the folder. Right click the white space and try any of the "arrange by" options to see if it pops up.

As you see, the folder "Reunion" doesn't show in the icon view.

Bingo. That fixed it. I have been using this iMac for four years and I've never seen that behavior. But I used OSX 10.6.xx until a couple of weeks ago.

I have had it happen to me when I created a folder from the file->save dialog within an application. Somehow the location of the new folder can find its way to the same spot as another in the finder window. Does not happen often but its something to remember...

I'm quite sure that is how it happened to me. Never happened with OSX 10.6.xx, however. It may be a 10.8 bug.

Definitely NOT just an issue with 10.8. This happened to me quite a few years ago well before running 10.8.

It's happened to me running 10.5. It's just a weird rarely seen bug.
