Setup
The background is black fabric. A small continuous-light lamp was above the scene in the front right area. Nine textures from InfiniteTexturePanel.com were added and the entire scene was then desaturated to monochrome.

Focus stacking
40 focus-bracketed images at Nikon step size 3 were stacked in Helicon Focus at its default settings.

What is causing the light rays in the depressions? I kept looking back and forth between those light rays and the dominant light source in the upper left.

I assumed they were textures. For me, they didn't seem to fit the subject and actually caused distraction, at least for me.
