Taking My Nephew Shooting

Just got back from taking my nephew out shooting in the Pawnee. I've been teaching him how to shoot since he was around 4 years old, starting with an old single shot .22 rifle.

At 12 he is now a crack shot with just about any rifle and is starting to get very good with a pistol. It as taken him longer with a pistol since that is a lot of weight to hold out from your body for a little guy. He is growing and getting stronger though, and today he was shooting clays like a pro with my 9mm's and a .22 1911.

Well here are a few pictures I shot of him while he was shooting.

Here's one he took of me while I was busting clays. Pretty decent little shooter! (the nephew ;))

Agreed! Excellent images!

Andrew, these are awesome. Mind if I ask what lens you shot with? 35? 28? 24?

Love it when you can grab casings exiting the chamber.

Thanks. Yeah, my nephew has been shooting with me almost since he can walk. I'm afraid one day he may be able to beat me

As for photography, I've taken him on a few outings, I really need to do another one soon. I specialize in landscapes and wildlife and he has a very fun time when we go together for some wildlife photography. He gets a kick out of how close you can get to wildlife, with a little instruction .

Thank you. The shots of my nephew were taken with a Samyang 35mm F1.4 manual focus lens from F1.6-f2

The shot he took of me was with a Nikon 50mm F1.8G lens at f1.8 (the manual lens would have been a little too difficult for him at such a wide aperture).

You have taught him well, he has very good form. Next, you should get him involved in local competitions and, perhaps, reloading...

GREAT captures !
Was this at an outdoor gun range -- or just open land ?
Don't have any open land around me (Austin) to shoot on -- sure wish we did.
Gun ranges are fun -- but nothing like being out in the open
