Tammy 18-400mm 1at Field Test

I just received this lens yesterday. I took it on a field trip to try it out. If you look very carefully in the shady center of the 18mm photo the is a heffer. That was my focus point. All photos were hand help. At 300mm and 400mm (I ran the photos thru Topaz stabilize. The turned out very good. The black cow in the last picture just had this calf last night. You can still see the umbilical cord attached. This photo was taken about 200 feet away with the subject in the shade. For the first time out with this lens I am very pleased.

At 22x you can reach out and touch someone..

You are never going to be able to accurately judge lens sharpness handholding a 400mm lens at 1/80th sec. But, we worry about technical factors way too much, no one else cares.
They either like the picture or they don't. I have had lots of images hanging in galleries and elsewhere- no one has ever said anything about sharpness. Ever.
Enjoy your lens- it should help you make great pictures.

I have this lens as well, used on a D7100. I am extremely impressed with its overall construction as well as IQ.
I had the 1st gen (non-piezo) 18-270 for about 5-6 years. Although it took good photos, it became a real dog toward the end - I thought I’d never get another Tamron. I was on the fence for about 9 months on getting this lens, but the Nikon 16-80 2.8-4 costs way too much for what you get, and shooting only with a 35mm 1.8 gets kind of old quick...so I hopped off the fence. Glad I did.

If you know what you’re doing, you can get really good photos out of it.

Your photos are sharp and crisp. Well captured. So far regrettably have not been able to use this lens very much. It is not that I don't want to but I don't drive. So if I want to take some snaps my wife takes me. With the photos I have done so far I am delighted. I find that if I put the pics thru Topaz Sharpen (Stabilize) it puts a very fine edge onto the photo. I am hoping tomorrow I can get out and do some photos of roses.

How ever you are doing it don't stop. Your photos are excellent. Very clear and sharp. I am hoping tomorrow to be able to go take some photos. If successful I will post them here.

Finally I was able to take the Tammy 18-400mm lens out for a fields test. I went to the three Nunn's farm for their pumpkin patch. What a great day. The Tammy didn't let me down. I was delighted with the photographs it took. No problems and good photos.

How FAST does the lens focus?

I am thinking of getting an 18-400 rather than a 100-400 to shoot baseball/softball, for our high school sports photographers.
I like the idea of them using just ONE lens, rather than changing lenses between the 18-140 and 100-400.
