    Faster than the Sigma.

    Wider than the Tokina.

Closer minimum focusing distance than both.

I can feel the rationalizations kicking in already ...

Edit: Oops. That press release is from September 2nd. Wow, I'm late to the show. I got excited because the dpreview Photokina coverage mentioned that there were some on hand at the Tamron booth. Sorry.

  2. Are there any sample shots from this floating around yet?

Cool! Lots of neat stuff coming out lately. I was interested in this lens back in the spring. I think this lens was actually announced before the Tokina 11-16, but I've had the Tokina since May and this is just coming out now?? :Curved: Built-in AF motor is a plus too. Oh well. Wonder how it'll perform?

This could be an interesting lens, the real question is going to be optical performance. The previous Tamron superwide (11-17, or something like that) was a bit of a dud compared to the Sigma and Tokina offerings.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Better than everyone, at everything? Yeah, right. ;)

  7. Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say that.

    1. No USM / full time manual override. In fact, many people consider Tamron's micromotor to be a step backward from screwdriver AF.

    2. Not as fast as the Tokina.

    3. Likely mediocre build quality.
