Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 SP XR Di II or .....?

    What do you guys think about this lens? I am looking for an affordable lower light lens that can be used to do weddings, everyday shots, some portraits.

    This is mainly a lens to practice and hone my skills more in many areas dealing with people. ;)  I really want a few primes, but I won't be able to afford a new camera body until next year most likely. Switching lenses at a wedding or at some time sensitive event may make me miss some shots, which is whey I'm considering this lens.

    Has anyone had good/bad experiences with this lens? Or perhaps someone can recommend a different one to consider.

    I've been pleased with the results from my Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8. I use it mostly for wide angle landscape kind of stuff, but sometimes for close-up stuff, too, when I'm not sure what FOV I want for sure.
