I've tried the 1.4x with the Tamron, and I thought it was terrible -- worse than simply cropping, and that was on the relatively forgiving D700. Maybe someone else will get better results, but for me it was a non-starter.

I’m taking shots of Jupiter tonight with the Tamron 70-300mm @ 300mm. My buddy is into astronomy and yes those are moons Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto in order from left to right.
The first one is on a tripod VC off matrix the second is hand held VC on spot.

Really kwheuuuuul and different Tom--but we all know there are not enough moons in the Galaxy to exhaust Zeus' conquests by naming them after heavenly bodies.:biggrin::biggrin:

I am amazed at what this lens can do. Is the below shot a wall hanger...no, but I wanted to photograph our Veteran's day assembly from the bleachers inside our very poorly lit gymnasium. I grabbed the D90 and Tamron 70-300 VC and got results that are better than I could have ever hoped for.

I am still learning this lens, but I am really impressed with the VC. It is definitely superior to the VR of the 70-200 I recently sold.

I finally got around to shooting this lens a little on my D600 and wasn't digging the results as much as I did on the D7K. I'm hoping that it was just because it was a dreary wintery day and the photos were naturally just dull but something just seemed off. I'm going to test it a bit more fore deciding on selling it or not( I was suppose to sell it a year ago haha)
