How do you take a shot like this? every time I try, the sun's always wasy blown out.

I appreciate everyones comments. When I take sunrise/sunset shots I expose for the brightest part of the sky (excluding the sun) and open up one stop. This was done with Graduated 2 stop nuetral density filter. The same metering as above.
By the way Steve, I use spot metering almost all the time.
And this image is just Awesome !
