Last night was my "test debut", Australia vs France in front of 40000 in Brisbane. Aust (40) beat France (10)

There were about 20 photographers there - interestingly it's now about 50/50Nikon, mostly D3's with 400's but a couple of D300's though a french guy had a 600 F/4 !!

Here are some pics

VERY well done. I'm guessing you were shooting the 120-300? How do you like that lens?
Also great to hear there are lots of "dark" lenses hitting the sidelines now!

I don't know anything about this sport, but the action that you captured is interesting. Well done Darren.

Thanks Brooks

Based on the other gear that was there I felt totally inadequate, lol. Based on my bib I was only permitted to be behind the tryline, so, reach wasn't really long enough a lot of the time.

D300, Sigma 120-300

Settings :

JPEG, Standard, +1 Sat, -1 Hue, +7 Sharpening
21 pt Dynamic
AutoWB
Manual Exposure (1/800s, ISO1600, F2.8) mostly

I did use AutoISO for awhile but I'mn trying to ween myself off that. For example, I did use it for 15 minutes, and ISO went from 1000 to 3200 in one burst !!

The light's pretty good, and consistent (TV standard) and ISO1600 is the max I really like to go, even if slightly underexposed at times. I metered off the grass and it was pretty accurate I think
