Any teleconverters that I may own or lenhave owned typically end up sitting in the camera closet from lack of use. I was curious today to see how the Nikon 1.4 E III TC would work with the 500 pf and 70-200 f/2.8 E lens on the D6. Luckily a pair of pileated models dropped in to partake in the shoot.
1. With the 500 pf and 1.4 TC. The sun was just getting above the tree line and was 45 degrees to the subjects right. Shot through a not so clean window. This combo tended to hunt a bit to acquire focus. ISO 8000
2.
One of the pileated decided to fly to the back porch and perched himself on a railing. So I switched to the 70-200 E with the 1.4 TC. Again shot through a not so clean window, but focus acquisition was much snappier. No hunting at all. ISO 2200
3. With 300 pf and 1.4 E TC. Iso 22500
