i assume you mean the D series? one touch or two?

mine's the two-touch and it's still the same impressive chunk of glass it was 16 years ago when i got mine.

i don't feel any great urgency to upgrade to a VRII as my 80-200D is still awesome.

I have owned and loved the 80-200 f2.8 AFd, 80-200 f2.8 AFs and still prefer the 80-200 f2.8 AFd because the quality and price. I tried the 70-200 AF VR and really did not like it as much as the 80-200,

i feel my decision not to upgrade my 80-200 and instead get a 200/2 hath been vindicated!

I completely agree. I love the output of my 80-200 f/2.8 AFD. When my pushpull was stolen a number of years ago, I'd always intended to get the 70-200 f/2.8 but could not justify the price and rarely use VR. I got the 80-200 f/2.8 a couple of days ago and am really loving it. Took it out in the field today looking for nesting egrets.

It is indeed the older AF-D version, but it really does perform well. I got mine used for $600, and it might have been the best deal.

I'll never upgrade to the 70-200 VRII, I would go for the 200 ƒ2.

i'll probably upgrade mine, one day. but there's a lot of other glass and gear to get before i look at retiring Old Faithful.
Well, with prices being quite high on new lenses, I figured I would just save for a used 200 ƒ2 and be done with it. But the whole saving thing is difficult while attending college.
