The Bluebirds are finally back!

Discussion in 'Birds' started by Jim Strathearn, Jun 7, 2007.

  1. We had Bluebirds for most of last spring/summer and they used one of our nest boxes for their second nesting. They are in the process of bringing nesting material into the same box they used last year. Oddly enough, some Carolina Chickadees already used that box this year for their first nesting!

Way to go Jim these are very nice:smile:
  8. Let me say first that I'm sorry for not responding to these comments earlier. No excuses; just a case of getting old I guess!

Thanks Gale! Do you get these guys down where you are?

    Thanks Paul!

Thanks Frank. These guys are quite animated...

    Thanks Lil!

    Thanks for looking!

Thanks Tim! I enjoy watching and photographing this pair...
  9. You sure did capture the bird in great light, Very well done
  10. Thanks Gary! But the SB-800 takes the credit for the light...  Once the leaves are on the trees, natural light becomes a premium light source around my place...
  11. Great shots. I am jealous, my blue birds disappeared and house wrens are in the blue bird house.

Sounds like cause for a celebration! Great shots Jim!
  13. Beautiful shots of the Blue bird. I have tried attracting them to nesting boxes in my backyard for several months without any takers.
I have observed a couple of Blue birds looking around but still no Nester's.
I suppose what they say of the Real Estate market these days hold true for the Little Birdie housing as well. "It is a buyers market"
  14. Beautiful set Jim, #1 is a killer shot.

  15. Thanks!

I get mine to stay around with meal worms. They are expensive so I don't put them out until I see the Bluebirds. They love them...
  16. LOL! Come on back up here any time Mark.
  17. Thanks Darrell! Next time you see them in your yard, put our some meal worms. They'll be back...
  18. Thanks Louie! I like that one too...
  19. You know Jim that is the very same thing here in N.Y. Last year we were loaded and so far this year I have not seen but a few blue birds while checking eagle nests and that was awhile ago.
The photos you did get are beautiful and the male has nice rich color. Nice catch.
  20. Thanks Lou!

I read here that Bluebirds are one of the species hit hard by West Nile...
