What lenses are sharp to the corners in pixel peeping mode? I'm finding most of my lenses are very sharp in the center and the better ones stay sharp to the edge in the horizontal plane through the center but the corners are not sharp at all in pixel peeping magnifications.

Sigma 85 F/1.4. Sharper than sharp.

Nikkor 105 micro. A lens I never was fully fan of. That changed after it was mounted on the D800. Extremely fast autofocus and sharp.

Sigma 50mm. Somewhat soft I agree. Will change it to the 50mm 1.8

D800 and 105mm f/2.5 Ais

Just got the D800 and WOW! These are straight out of the camera, no sharpening. Manual focus and hand held. Absolutely amazing, as all of my other Nikon bodies photos have always needed some sharpening in post. Really impressed with the tonal range, I would have expected more highlight blowout, but only a little on the bee shot.

105 f/2.5 Ais manual focus is a great little lens, first time with the D800 and I am really digging the results. Leaf shot at f/2.5, others at f/4.0

Tamron 28-75/2.8 (non-BIM)

The Tamron 28-75/2.8 (non-BIM) has been a long-time favorite of mine on both DX and FX bodies.
Yesterday, I shot a parade at Coney Island with the 28-75 on my D800.
Now that I've examined the images, I couldn't be happier.
I haven't tested for edges and corners, but then I don't shoot buildings and landscapes. For my shooting, it seems perfect.
Enough of my blather, here are a few wide open samples.

Dave,

Here's a 100% crop of No. 5.

Not too shabby for just a quick handheld grab shot at f/2.8.
The D800 has far exceeded my expectations. And I'm glad my old Tamron 28-75 seems able to keep up.

Great Recommendations. Has anyone tested the 80-200 f/2.8 AF-D Push/Pull? I have an opportunity to pick one up for about $300 but I have heard mixed reviews of this lens on the D800.

Has anyone tried the older 18-35 AFD on the D800/E?

Jonathan you got me to thinking so this afternoon I gave it a try. I had not used this lens since my D100 days. It has been sitting ever since. I will post some later but I must say I was pleasantly surprised with my fast review of the shots. I think this will work for me on the wide end with the D800.

Good to know! I always thought the lens was sharp, but was a little lacking in build quality.

Yes I agree. It will be a great lens to go hiking with as it is very light. Here are a few images from yesterday. Nothing special, shot in mid day light and hand held. Not bad for those conditions.
exif here says 20mm, I thought I was at 18.

Now if I can find a 24-120mm I will be happy.

Well we finally got to see that thing called sun yesterday. First time in a long while I did not need to use high ISO. Actually first time I got to use ISO 100 on the D800.

Someone wrote earlier that the 20/1.8D was not good on the D800. It's not perfect but I think is does OK:
Heavy (maybe too heavy) perspective correction done in Lightroom.
