Series E 50mm f/1.8 - Representative Picture Thread

A tiny and light lens that originally came with the Nikon FG camera, for which a whole line was designed. Optics generally about as good as the heavier, more expensive Nikons. But lighter bodies; more use of plastic. These are AIS manual-focus lenses. The lens is sharp and has lovely bokeh wide open.

Peppermill Cap Shot with a +3 52mm Vivitar Close-up Lens attached. Notice the smooth highlight bokeh from the chrome highlights. This combo.... a $35 lens and $15 close-up kit ....make a good inexpensive macro substitute.
Nikon D300 ,Nikon 50mm f/1.8 E w/Vivatar +3 Close-Up Lens, 1/50s iso640 aperture unrecorded.

Sharpness/Bokeh Test Shot Notice again the smooth highlights and generally "un-nervous" bokeh. Also note how reasonably sharp the snow shovel handle is even at max aperature.

The Embrace Wind introduces Snow to Tree. Nature takes over from there. Nothing lasts forever, but it is sweet when the magic happens. Notice the micro-contrast. I seem to recall this was an f/4 or f/5.6 shot.

I've had my lens only a short while. I know there are others here who can add much better shots, and I hope they soon will.

Here's a thread to post your shots taken from any E-Series lens. Please state which lens and body you used to take the shots.

I'll start it off:

Shot is nothing spectacular but I just started to really use the lens. I love how compact it is. An abandoned Used car lot buried by the recent blizzard in Chicago.

135 E @f/2.8 D700

I recently shot one of my favourite bands and took the E along with to see what it could do. This ended up being my favourite shot of the night.

I still have my 100E from the film days and I really liked it on my FM2. Unfortunately when I scanned my film pics, the EXIF data was lost so I really cannot tell what ones were with that lens... I guess I now have an excuse to get it out and shoot with it...

By reputation, the E wide is the weakest link in the chain. The 20mm f/2.8 AIS on the othe hand is viewed better, although Nikon is not strong on wides in general.
