The Mother of all Flies!

This is Phasia hemiptera - a huge fly which preys on Shieldbugs.

Took my breath away when I first saw one as it's a real monster :eek:

Thanks folks. I thought it was a hoverfly until I was told otherwise - it's the size of a large one at that! It really made my eyes go :Shocked:

WOW. What a fly that is -- huge -- it's on a clover blossom isn't it?

It's Meadow Thistle, I think :smile:

Nice looking fly!

I should have taken a pic of a Horse fly I saw couple of weeks ago, it must have been atleast two inches ... ok, let´s say more like 2 cm :smile:

I should have taken a pic of a Horse fly I saw couple of weeks ago, it must have been atleast two inches ... ok, let´s say more like 2 cm :smile:

Jukka, this one would have eaten your horse fly for breakfast :biggrin:
