  1. Hi All,

some shots with the Nikkor 400mm f2.8 at the airshow. I really love this lens. It is a bit short for birding but you can use the 1.4x teleconverter on it.

Snowbirds do a close flyby. I was following the plane heading right. it is tack sharp while the closer one has motion blur even at 1/5000 sec.

I was really drawn to the bright colors of the skydivers. Thanks for looking,

  2. Wow!! These are so much fun to see!! Great job!

  3. which 400/2.8 version do you have ?

  4. Hi Randy, Nikon insisted I try their latest lens, I only had it for the airshow so it is the latest version. The VR is really good and it is lighter than the older non VR version. I really did like this lens. The image is very bright in the viewfinder.

I probably won't get it due to the price but it is on the wish list... Georgie thinks I should wait for the 500PS cause she cant lift the 400 f2.8. I keep telling her to use a tripod, but you know beagles they just won't listen.

    Cheers,

  5. I just got a new one, it's an amazing lens, the best I've ever used and on the D5 the bokeh is superb

  6. Hi Randy,

I have to agree with you. The lens is awesome and is still really sharp with the TCs on too. It also focuses faster than the old version which was pretty fast for its time.

Glad you are loving the lens.

Nice stuff, did you get any "sonic boom" vapor ball shots?

  9. Fantastic shots, the colors are amazing.

  10. Amazing images, thanks for sharing really looks a good lens.

  11. Well done, Alexis!

You gotta have one of those. (I mean the lens.)

  12. Hi Jim,

Thanks for your kind words. Yes I would love one of these awesome lenses. If I had the money I would get one, just for the versatility: 400mm F2.8 550mm F4 with the TC1.4 and 800mm f5.6 with the TC2.

Randy have you tried the 2x teleconverter on your 400? I didn't have my 2x TC III with me at the airshow.

Thanks Bill, i'm glad you liked them.

Thanks for the kind words Rick. Yes the colors of the skydivers are awesome. I liked shooting the evening show as the light was better.

    Thanks Harry.

Great series! Was this at the Abbotsford air show? Jeff

  14. Thanks, Jeff. Yes it was the 2018 Abbotsford airshow. I have been going on and off since the early seventies....

  15. Hi West,

the air was a little too dry to get any vapor balls. Got a bit on some of the high g maneuvers but nothing to write home about.

    Cheers,
    alexis and Georgie Beagle

" the great shots of planes emerging from vapor cloud is not from breaking the sound barrier but rather from low pressure effects of the air going over the wing. the pressure drops and then the mist forms. it quickly evaporates once the air gets back to normal. But you knew that. I just like showing off that a beagle can do physics" - Georgie Beagle

  16. I haven’t but it’s probably pretty good
I got it lens for 100% sports at 2.8

  17. Thanks Randy,

Yes I was thinking it would be pretty good because the lens is so sharp. with the 1.4TCIII it is awesome. I wonder if there is a market for Beagle kidneys? just kidding...

    Cheers,
    alexis and Georgie Beagle
