The toughest sport I've ever shot. (mma)

I've dabbled in various sports photography just to keep myself from getting rusty for the paid stuff (weddings) I find a lot of the techniques translate and make me a better wedding photographer.

Anyways, I've shot skateboarding, wakeboarding, football, baseball/softball, soccer and I'm sure some others... either in daylight or under the lights... but NOTHING compares to shooting cage fighting.

The action is so explosive and unpredictable. The light is horrendous. You're elbow to elbow with other photographers. Your lens is butted up against the cage. And sometimes you just can't help but get caught up in the action. (oh, and of course the mats are red... which makes for terrible skin-tones)

With that said... I think I did alright. Check out this set.

Even though there are no "faces" in #12, it's my favorite shot with the sweat flying. Good job in the tough situation Drew.

look you did great to me! The flare and shadows all add to the sports toughness imo!

I shot a HS wrestling match last year in similar lighting (one spot light on the mat and thats all)

#2 is just plain out awesome. I have been a huge fan of MMA since the age of 13. To see a competitor have full mount with a good combination of "ground and pound" is just pure adrenaline. Great capture.
