Thinking of going full frame with Z5

So I’m thinking of a return to full frame, this time with Nikon and especially the Nikon Z5. Which seems to be in my budget range. My question for folks here, is do you have some sense for a good price for a z5 used?

also I could use some lens recommendations. What I’d really like is a 24 to 105 kit and also a compact 1.8 35. Are there such native lenses for the z? Though maybe I could get by on the 24-70/4 but I’m still not sure on a compact 35

As far as I know where there is no 24 to 105 yet. I’m not sure the Z5 is old enough to find really good used deals.

Nope, but it's on the lens roadmap. That's one I've been waiting for.

You might take a look at NikonUSA.com for a refurb. they have the bodies for something like $995 or something. Recently, and periodically, they will have an extra 10% off of that price. I almost picked one up on their most recent sale at the $900 price point. They can be found used, sometimes. People will get one and decide to trade up to a z6 or z7. You just have to keep your eye out.

As mentioned above, the Z 5 has not been out long enough to see a significant savings buying used vs. new. If you're open to spending $1100, a used Z 6 can be bought for that price these days.

24-105 is in the works, but no release date. There is a native 35mm f/1.8, but it is no smaller than the 24-70mm f/4 retracted.

The 24-70 is compact and I'm sure better quality (Thom seems to say slightly better), but the 24-200 is a nice all-in-one. If I could get the compact 40 when it's out, along with the all-in-one, that might be a nice setup.

I had the Canon RP + 24-240, but I didn't like the controls and ergos on the RP, and the 24-240 was pretty darn front heavy. Thom says the Z 24-200 is more balanced, weight wise.

I just wish the whole kit was more about $1200-1300 rather than $1700. I don't shoot as much as I used to, so for me, it's a "stand by" kit more than every day use. It would replace by G85 + PL12-60.

If you're thinking in terms of a standby kit that doesn't break the bank, and you're trying to increase your FL coverage to 200mm FF equivalent on the long end, would you consider selling the PL 12-60 to partially fund the purchase of the Oly 12-100? I have lots of personal experience shooting the 12-100 and it is stunningly good - better than the Nikon 24-200, I believe.

Z5 w/ 24-200 is a nice travel/hiking package. That's my vote and one that interests me as well as a move to mirrorless if I go that route someday.

I took a different path with the Z5. I do most of my shooting with crop sensor cameras. (D500, D7200, etc. as well as a Canon 7D MkII). So my first Z was the Z50 two lens kit. Then I added the FTZ adapter for all my existing Nikon lenses and a Canon EF to Nikon Z adapter to use my Canon "L" glass on my Z. (oh does it work great!). So, when the Z5 went on sale this week I picked one up. I got the body only for now. I am not sure witch Z lenses I will eventually add but for now I am able to use all my existing Nikon F and Canon EF and EF-S lenses on my Z5 or my Z50.
Long term I am not sure how this will all unfold. If I really love the Z series I might consider picking up a lightly used Z7 II down the road. Too soon to tell how I will adapt to mirrorless after all these decades of shooting SLR cameras. I am keeping all my options open.....
BTW: one of the reasons I added Z's to my collection was the ability to use my excellent Canon lenses on a Nikon body. Its the best of both worlds for me. Now I can pick and choose which lens will best suit what I want to do.

I have a Z6 and the 24-200 and its my go to camera these days... going to be selling alot of other gear as I hike and such and the light weight of the Z and 24-200 is perfect for me and my usage
