and I finally got around to snapping a couple of photos of him. I have new found respect for Hummingbird photographers - it is not easy to get close to these very quick characters, and they rarely stay in one place long enough to frame and focus. Most of these are in shade at fairly slow shutter speeds and ISO1600.

    They are apparently territorial

    Finally, he poses......(ISO1600, 200-400,1.4x, f6.3)

All beautiful shots, the colors in the second and third one are really nice. The detail is great.

These are beautiful shots, especially the first and last. Good job!

  7. These are excellent shots. The first and the last ones are superb.
I agree with what you said about the hummers and on top of that,
they are very territorial and because of that, you loose a chance to
    get a shot quite often.

    Thanks for sharing.

  9. Great set. Very sharp, and with beautiful colors.

  10. Oh how beautifuL! I haven't even attempted to do a hummer yet! Are those petunias? I have nothing in my yard to attract anything except reg bird feeders. Dunno how long hummers would be in my area, but I sure would like to try that sometime! Awsome captures for sure!

Thanks everyone. I’ve seen so many pretty shots of these guys, and wanted to get some too.

Dianne, I think they are pet Petunias - my wife is the flower person here. I asked here for something that would attract the hummingbirds.

  18. I do like hummers, saw my first one just last week. Then it was gone! just don't get them here for long and yes they stay still that often.

    Thanks for sharing.
