Three Buffleheads (?) from Juanita Park

Discussion in 'Birds' started by RonS, Dec 17, 2005.

  1. At least I think they are Buffleheads. Am I correct?

Just starting to use my Sibley guide.

Just happened to catch this of shot as two went under the surface.

Yes, it is the female Buffle, The males are very very hard to photograph (as are the females) with their white and dark contrasting heads that are dark black/green with some iridescent colors too in certain lights.

tiny fast quick divers, very hard to capture.

By the way, also wanted to state that it is really cool to see the two divers on either side of the swimmer, their orange feet create a nice glow underwater.

    Good capture

  7. Thanks Jim and Wade, this must be a male, blown out whites, and I was -.7 stop.

  8. Yep those sure are Buffle Head Duckies.. Saw about a dozen of them today , but they are very wary of people and kept well away from us standing and even sitting along the shore line of the pond...

Very difficult to expose for same as the Hooded Merangasers.... Go for the whites and bring back the exposure in the conversion process...
