Not just certain how to word this:

We have a 500mm lens and a 300mm...
Would really like to get the 600mm, but have not found a used one yet.
I realize the length differences between the 300, 400, and 200-400mm...

For those of you who have used these lenses, your opinion please...

Question: shooting birds, not regarding weight, opinion between the 400mm and the 200-400mm please...
We like sharp clear pics...

If any of this makes sense...help please

thanks

Not sure if I really understood your post.

Between the 400mm (I assume 2.8) and 200-400mm VR, I'd take immediately the 400mm/2.8. Nothing beats the IQ of this lens wide open.

The 200-400 is my favorite lens, followed closely by the 200/2.0. I can't offer comparisons between anything else, though. Here is a 200-400 shot:

Andy...
I am not certain about my post either...duh
I guess I am trying to verify the usage of one over the other.
I know they are different lenses...
I have never used either, and that might help
but I know no one close to me who has them to try out...
camera stores do not stock...

Anyway...question, Andy, sir...
have you ever used the 200-400?

Very nice shot John...
beautiful animal

You did get quite close, possibly a wildlife reserve,
or were you out in the wilds of, say, Africa?

Thank you, Chayelle!

Oh, I wish I could shoot in the wilds of Africa!
This beauty resides at The Louisville Zoo. The observation area is several hundred feet away, so I shoot D2X with 200-400, and often use the high speed crop.
