I am looking to purchase a tokina 12-24 and have been doing some reading - i read somewhere that it is fine if you
"Don’t need AF-S focusing"
what exactly does this mean, it won't work in AF-S mode, only AF-C? if so what would cause it to not work in AF-S?
thanks for the help

Hi.....

It just means that there is no drive motor in the lens (Nikon AF-S, Sigma HSM) and it works off the drive motor in the camera. Has nothing to do with the focus settings in the camera (AF-A,AF-S & AF-C). Guess this was a bad choice of words by Nikon to describe two different things...

Hence, it can only be manually focused on the D40, but OK for the rest of Nikons DSLR's....

BTW, it a really nice lens but careful shooting into the sun as it does have a bit of flare...
