Trade in D40X for D80???

Discussion in 'Nikon DX DSLR' started by paulvanharte, Aug 6, 2008.

  1. Love my D40X, but trying to decide if I should trade it in for a D80. I am just an amateur, but is the D80 much better than the D40X?? Has the same sensor, so will there be any improvement in general use??(picture quality etc etc)
Can you guys help me out.( yes I know the AF issue)

    Hi Paul,

Image quality between the two is going to be pretty similar.

The D80 gives you a slug of features to use not found in the D40X. Here's a few:

    -Internal motor for non-AF-S lenses.
    -Autobracketing
    -Second command wheel
    -Additional focus points
    -Commander flash mode
    -OEM battery grip option
    -Increased Auto-ISO control
    -Exposure bracketing
    -Increased high ISO NR control
    -Upper illuminated data panel

The D80 allows for faster manipulation due to its greater external controls. This may or may not be important to you.

I'd be tempted to hold tight for a while and see what's just around the Nikon corner. You'll either find a new model that is more appealing or you'll be able to snag a nice clean used D80 for an even lower price point.

    Good luck to you.

I've been hearing a bit of buzz about the D90.. Maybe if you can wait a bit longer see what effects it will have on the D80's pricing and then go from there.
