would you trade your d90 with grip and 18-105 with a canon 40d with grip and 17-85.?
sorry if it's a silly question.
thanks.

40D is a better build of camera, but the D90 has a better sensor (in my opinion). I'd rather have the Nikon, all said and done.

I had Canon 40D with 17-85. It has 9 X Sensors while D90 has 1 X sensor in the middle. If you are to shoot moving objects, 40D will be better for sure. The only issue with 40D is that its high ISO is limited at 3200 (your D90 at 6400) and higher ISOs are cleaner on D90 than on 40D. If majority of your shooting is ISO800 or below, you won't see a difference.

Shot with both and I'd say no, the trade isn't worth it.

The 40D has a decent sensor (leaning twards great) and has a more upscale feel (it was almost in the same class as the D300..).

BUT
Big downside in that trade is the lens.
The 17-85 I've tried was abysmal. Great IS and fast focus, I'll give it that, but IQ wise it was worse than the Canon 18-55 non-IS...
