So I did end up trading my D40 + 18-55 for a D50 + 18-70. Here's a few from the first outting with it. That outting happened to be my step-sisters wedding. I didn't take many of the B&G since they had 3 pros that I would've just gotten in the way of. This was mostly a test of the camera before commiting to the trade. I was quite happy with the results. The RAW files look fairly identical to the D40.

Only real complaint was the fact that the top info screen was impossible to read in the REALLY dark reception hall. That and I kept turning on the self timer since that button brings up the info screen on the D40. Buttons will take a little time to get used to.

The D50 is a jewel for the money, even when they were top shelf consumer. I have a D200 and D50 back up. I often keep a 35/2 or 50/1.4 on the D50 because the high iso IQ is much better than my D200. Go figure. Have fun with your new kit. -Jeff

that first shot is great but would be so much better if her eyes were open a little more. love the light though.

Ah yes... my wife (and her twin sister for that matter) both squint like that when they're smiling. That and she's impossible to grab a shot of without her knowing it. She immediately poses like that everytime she sees a camera pointed at her. Gotta really sneak up on her somehow.

Thanks again for the comments. I think I'll need a little time to get used to the button arrangements on the D50, but everything else seems quite nice. This camera also had <2000 clicks on it when I got it. I was told it had closer to 5k. Nice trade...
