On May 17, 2007 the Transportation Workers held a rally on the Mall in front of the Capitol in Washington DC. Railroad maintenance workers, airline workers, machinists, flight attendants, pilots, train crews and many other crafts all attended. There were many issues that brought them here including wages, health care, safe working conditions and up to 8 years without a contract. The Amtrak workers held their own rally at Union Station and then joined the rest of the groups at the Mall. Most of the Union organizations made it clear that it was not a job action and people were left in key places to insure that our transportation system kept running safely. As with any big event, a few guest speakers always show up...
