Tried my hand at a Hunter-Jumper show (9 shots)

Discussion in 'Sports Photography' started by BostonRott, Jun 2, 2007.

  1. At least I'm pretty sure this was Hunter-Jumper. It was horses jumping, that's for sure!

Between today's heat and humidity, it was the kind of air that your lungs just say "nope, you're NOT bringing THAT in here!" I was rather in awe of these beautiful riders and their horses, working so hard in the heat (and wearing those jackets! ).

Again, what suggestions do you have to improve next time?

    The adults were impressive

I found the kids to be more fun to shoot! This haze was from the a.m.

Does not look like an easy task
  6. Thank you Gale.

It was a lot of fun, the horses are just incredible athletes, as are the riders!

  9. hahahaa....I'm working on it!!

Thank you Randy. The morning conditions were better, no harsh sun. I was actually surprised at the ease of getting the sun behind me for afternoon shooting (and thus not shooting directly into the sun).

  15. Thank you for your kind words!

Hahahaa, yes, I've learned a few things here at the Cafe!

Thank you, it was! I just love watching animals compete.
  16. Very, very nice, Gretchen. All very sharp, well-exposed, captured at the height of action, and with great looks at the faces (horses and riders). I'll bet this was lots of fun to shoot.

I'm pretty sure these shots are all from hunter-jumper events. My wife competed for several years, and was on the riding team (the Redcoats) at Radford College (now Radford University).
  17. Thank you Dave! It was a lot of fun. I need to work on educating myself about horse events and terminology!
