Tripod Head Advice Reqd

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by simonramsden, Aug 15, 2005.

  1. Hi

I have a Manfrotto (Bogen) 190BWB tripod with the MG460 head on it. Its a nice small set up without all the "arms" sticking out - which makes it good for transporting easily.

When I put the D70, Sigma 70-200 f/2.8, Canon 500D and SB-600 together (my standard macro set up) it weighs in at about 5.5 lbs. Problem is, I'm getting close to the weight limit of the head - 6.7 lbs. As a result I get a little bit of creep when I tighten the locks and the subject moves out of frame.

So... I need to look at a new bigger, stronger, heavier head. But which one. I want to try and retain the RC2 quick release as I've invested in all the plates and a monopod head etc...

    Choices look like :

    Ball Head - 488RC2 - max load 17.6 lbs
    Pan/Tilt 3 way head - 3030 - max load 13.3 lbs
Hydrostatic Ball Head - 468MGRC2 - max load 22 lbs

Anyone used/own any of these and prepared to give positive/negative comments ? Or, any other heads you think I should consider ?

    Thanks and Regards
