U14 Girls Soccer, AM Light

Discussion in 'Sports Photography' started by Aqualung, Oct 4, 2008.

  1. Nice day today, early (9AM EST) game...first half, coming towards the light, 2nd half, back to the sun, did the +0.3EV...selectively lightened shadows in post.

3 sides of the field had bad backgrounds too...D300 & Siggy 120-300/TC1.4 on many.

Awesome shots. They look good on my monitor. (sharp, well exposed...Apple Monitor)
I like the intense action captures. That's soccer!

Dang, Chris. I like how you handle the harsh light and shadows. I just posted a thread about this. How do you handle in the camera and, as you say, "selectively lighten in post"?

  7. Great series here. Good peak action, sharp and punchy, and nice compositions too. Even a good balance in some harsher lighting...

#7 is a little uncomfortable... she got her Christmas "goose" early with that boot. Yikes.

Sweet Light Chris 1 and 3 stand out for me in this series
    #1 great EYES and face
    #3 great action and conflict

  9. thanks Jeff...
Thanks Rod, when I saw that catch light from the sun I was psyched.

Thanks Matthew, I need to update my OP, I found out I had changed the sharpening setting so it was 'my bad', and yes, #8 is def a weak sharpening, I'm gonna go back and check it.

Thanks Dennis. I pop in a 2nd layer, adjust the shadow/highlights, and then selectively paint over the face/highlights to bring out the shadows (PM me if you want detailed info). Some tips from an earlier attempt cause me to a) not bring up the shadows too much and b) paint over areas other than the face to make it seem more realistic.

Thanks, I'm learning to be more patient and shoot the closer action so I get that pop, LOL #7...

    Thanks Mark...

Chris these look great especially with that light. Good timing on the action. For some reason I have never been able to achieve sharp pictures with a zoom and a converter.

  11. Thanks Ron, I did notice that in some pics I had to increase my sharpness setting...higher than others.
