  1. My youngest daughter had a mid morning game...on artificial turf. In the 60's but still had that 'heat shimmer', so I learned my lesson from yesterday and didn't even try for shots past midfield, basically. Makes the background in some look like an Impressionist painting...

In some shots the yellow really got oversaturated, so I tried to reduce in post. Also, bad shadows on one end....D300 & Siggy 120-300, no TC. EXIF intact...

Nice job Chris. I like #6 the best.

I had a similar experience shooting a game last spring on turf. I wonder if the surface does something to the reflected light that the auto WB can't account for.
  3. thanks Chris..it just might, switched to Sunny (from Auto)...but can't remember when, I'll have to look at the files...

    Nice shots Chris
Turf is notorious for the heat vapor on sunny hot afternoons it tends to be worse when shooting out at the further reach of your lens
  5. That heat shimmer is bizarre. I've never seen it.

    #6 is my favorite.

I see all the time on Turf fields especially the rubber fill ones
  7. thanks Mark, Mitch. Yeah, I've learned the hard way

Oddly, one day last June when it was 90 degrees +, I shot LAX on a similar field, and didn't see the same....I'll be back to that same field (LAX) on Mon, so it will be interesting to compare.

man that heat is cool looking. That turf must have been blazing!
  9. Nice shots good action. Chris I have seen and experienced the same thing on turf fields just another factor making sports shooting some of the most difficult

What is the best way to deal with it?

I'm fortunate I don't have to deal with artificial turf. Look like you did well with this series. Very nicely done.
I really like #6 and #7, the best. They all look good to me. Soccer is something I'm still learning how to shoot.
  12. thanks Jeff, this soccer level is a lot easier than varsity....
