Further to an earlier post about Arena Football Pictures Foiled, https://www.nikoncafe.com/vforums/showthread.php?t=157770, I thought I'd post a link to a very good PDF document which summarises the rights relating to photography in the UK. This, I assume, does not only apply to us Brits, but to anyone on British soil that wishes to take photographs.
You can download the PDF here:

A few interesting points from the document follow:
Forgive me if this has been covered in any earlier posts.

A few interesting points from the document follow:
- One is free to take photographs except when the law provides otherwise
- The owners of property do not normally have the power to prevent you taking a picture of their property from public land
- The owners do, however, have the right to impose whatever restrictions they wish when you are on their property, including no photography
- Property onwers have no right to confiscate or damage your equipment whilst on their property
- Taking photos in Trafalgar Square and Parliament Square is not allowed if its connected with any business or employment. Tourist photos are allowed. This also applies in the Royal Parks.
- Try and not stop people and traffic from passing, as this would be seen as an obstruction. Examples of this would be setting up a tripod on a busy street at 9am.
- Prohibited places are: Defence establishments, factories, dockyards, mines, ships and aircraft belonging to the crown. Munitions stores, any place belonging to the Civil Aviation Authority and any telecommunications office such as a BT exchange. In addition, the photograph must have been taken for a "purpose prejudicial to the safety or interests of the stage". Generally this is not an area you should test as the Terrorism Act of 2000 gives police many powers
- The Wildlife and Countryside Act of 1981 protect many animals. There is no restrictions on taking photos but its an offence to "disturb" them when they are at, or near, nesting places or shelter.
- Taking pictures of bank notes is illegal unless you have written permission by the Bank of England.
Forgive me if this has been covered in any earlier posts.
