On my D3S, I was very satisfied with the 70-200. The D800 changes the game. The 85 is MUCH sharper and lets me crop out 2/3 of the picture (still ending up with about the same amount of pixels as with the D3s, with the following advantages:

1) Smaller, Lighter Lens (Don't need VR)
2) 2 stops faster (WOOT!)
3) Ability to shoot at 1.4 for shallow DOF

Disadvantage:
1) I lose 15mm on the widest (85 instead of 70)

Am I missing something?

86-200mm. Optical "magnification" beats digital "magnification," i.e. cropping, every time. But I've been thinking the same exact thing as well. I may do it. I've looked at my 70-200 and start a post to sell it and then realize that I've gotten more keepers and sellers from that lens than any other over the past 10 years.
