Using Xfinity with devices like Roku

I switched to Xfinity and have a tv in the basement that I watch when I run on the treadmill. I also travel to warmer climates in the winter.
I assumed I could watch Xfinity on a tv buy watching it on my iPad with the Xfinity app and then hooking the iPad to a tv with a composite or hdmi cable and an adapter. The setup works fine for non Xfinity content (such as Youtube but Xfinity blocks the connection to an external monitor (after watching for 5 seconds an error message fills the tv screen.)

I am wondering if any of the boxes such as Roku, Amazon Fire, or Apple TV would allow me to do what I want. Any positive experience?

I can stream too with the Xfinity app. Can you see the Xfinity feed on a tv from the touch? That is what I want to do.

Yes. I opened the "WatchESPN" App on the iPod Touch and used "Airplay" to view it on my TV through Apple TV. I'm using the previous generation Apple TV which I bought through the Apple Refurb store.

Added in edit: Maybe I'm not fully understanding what you are trying to do.
