Vandalism at False Kiva: Canyonlands Closes Access
I cannot understand why people do this.
Part of it is stupidity.
Those who deface these monuments should be publicly shamed, booed, and cat-called at every store, restaurant, and bathroom for at least a year, or until they remove the damage (under a curator's guidance).
Very sad. I'm afraid that is one of the downsides of the internet. The sensation of getting to a unique place attracts the wrong kind of people.
I'm familiar with False Kiva, having once tried to reach it myself. The trail was difficult to find, and when we finally got within site of the cave it looked too hazardous to me. It's on a cliff face and requires a steep climb down a talus slope to reach it. We didn't do it.
Time to bring back the scarlet "A"
Agreed. Tattoo "MORON" on their forehead.
I have never had any use for vandals. I would rather someone steal something of mine than vandalize it. As an American Citizen, I consider myself to be part owner of this national park along with all others. As such, this individual(s) are beneath my contempt.
