Variations on a theme - hummers

Discussion in 'Retouching and Post Processing' started by beaucamera, Aug 22, 2008.

  1. Here's a series of images showing variations on a theme.

This little hummer is so cute and poses nightly in one of my oak trees.
I've been shooting with the D700 and 70-300VR.
Fortunately the hummer allows me to get pretty close, so, even with cropping I can get decent images.
These were all done at ISO 3200.

I started with four hummer images which I combined into a simple collage.

Next I modified the original composite, cloning in more detail.
This eliminated the boxy look of the original collage.
    102026802.

Then I tried a couple of popartist effects on the modified composite.
    102026804.

The final presentation is a montage where smart objects are added to a modified background.
    102026806.

It amazing the number of effects one can do with a simple image.
I hope you enjoy the result.

  2. You are the Quen of Hummers ...... really like that last one. Do you ever print and hang any of these?

    Best,

  3. Thanks, Bob.
    Hummers are such fascinating creatures.
They are fun photograph and fun to watch.

I rarely print things any more unless I need something for a show.
I have upgraded my monitor to a EIZO CG 222W, the one that Will Crockett now recommends.
Now, I have no excuse for not doing more printing.
