Vertical or Horizontal?

while i'm all for good use of negative space, like the horizontal more
the composition looks much better to me, and the elements of interest are a lot better detailed, sharing less of the frame with the empty sky and foreground
very nice!

Hmmmmm...just some ideas...

I like the composition of the first image if you cropped off about half of the ground and also perhaps a little more than half off the sky.....

With the second image, try:
right side: cropping just to the right of the white fence on the right side.....
top: a little above the balloon and near the top of the cloud on the right....
left side: crop about where the red thingy is in the fence line...

Horizontal, but I agree that it needs cropping. I'd want to get the balloon more over to the right of the image.

Or if you want a rectangle, try this. I think it gives the balloon a sense of direction.
