All shot on my D80 with the 18-55 kit lens at f/8 to f/11, double stacked 2-stop ND and 2-stop (0.6) grad-ND filters to control the light, my handy lightweight Quantaray QT-100 travel tripod, and my ML-L3 wireless release. I took the grad-ND off on the last few but don't remember exactly where.

C&C welcome. Yes I know some of the shots aren't quite level. My tripod was settling into the sand a bit and even my D80 is already a lot for it, and it was a tad breezy. Some I straighted live, a few I straightened in PS, and a lot I just left as-is due to lack of time. Post processed straight from the JPGs in DxO and pretty much left to full-auto settings.

    18 gets my vote, Steve.

Great job and a wonderful set of images (sometimes, it pays to get up and at 'em early).
  4. Awesome series!
  5. All of these are just beautiful! Worth getting up early for, eh? Any one of them would look great printed and hanging on your wall!

So much fun to watch how the light changes. I love them all. It was fun to watch the sunrise on the ocean, since I live so far away from it. Thanks.
  8. We have been vacationing on the Outer Banks of NC for the last 10 years now. You have captured the sunrise perfectly in this series. Very well done. We leave in a month, and your series is the perfect preview of what I get to look at every morning once I get there. Thanks for sharing.

    thanks everybody

I really lucked out on the conditions so I'm glad I got up. The next morning (Sunday) tropical storm Ernesto was rolling through I think, so there was nothing to be seen. I took one look from our hotel room on early early Saturday and was like whoa, I gotta get out there! Glad I did.
