VR in live view/video mode

Apr 6, 2012
In live view (D7100, but applies to all bodies) how is VR meant to behave?

I do not use AF-F (continuous AF), and I manually focus (switch still on A/M). When VR is turned on during live view movie mode, it does not stop. VR helps to stabilise the image on the LCD for manual focus, I don't know if it does anything during the actual video and really, there's likely no need to have it on then, however I'm wondering if it should be continually running like that?

I don't do a lot of video, but my 24-120 VR is my most used lens for handheld video primarily because it has VR. VR runs continuously when shooting video and stabilizes the footage just like it does for stills. When I shoot video from a tripod I turn VR off. For handheld video it is indispensable IMO. I'm so anal about shakey video that I use stabilization software in post processing to get rid of what VR did not correct.
