VR lens noise during operation

Discussion in 'Lens Lust' started by Gareth_R, Jul 12, 2008.

  1. I have just bought my first ever VR lens. When I give the shutter release a half press I can hear a whiring noise from the motor / gyro which seems perfectly normal.
When I release the button the whiring noise continues for abot a second and then there is a metalic type click as the motor / gyro stops.
My question is - is it normal to hear this click as the VR switches off ?
    Thanks.. Gareth

    Yes, that's normal.

When I first bought my 70-200VR it did the exact same thing. I contacted Nikon and they assured me that it is a normal part of operation.
  4. Thanks guys. I thought it was probably ok, but it's always as well to check.
  5. Yes this is normal. I have also noted some variability in AFS noise across lenses as well.
