In the dunes near the city Den Haag we have the Waalsdorper vlakte.
During the war the German oppressor used this dunes to execute hundreds of people.Either members of the resistance, random civilians, or prisoners from the nearby jail.
At this site each year on May 4th we remember our fallen by the monument.
Not many outsiders know that round the monument there are other monuments.

The official monument.Nothing fancy.Only 4 (once wood now metal) crosses.

Left of the monument you find a wooden fence.Closed during the year.Open only on May 4th.You follow a faint path trough the dunes, and you end in a valley. This is the place where most executions took place.Even when your not aware of what happened here, you feel it!.The place is marked with one single cross. They let nature go its way.

On the right,on top of a small hill you see a giant bronze bell.In the early years ex resistance members ranged the bell during the ceremony while other formed a honor guard. Now a days its a privilage to stand guard or ring the bell.

Right of the bell there is the "Rauter cross" in total 690 victims were shot on several places in Holland as retaliation for the attack (he survived) on SS officer Rauter. On this place 60+ were executed.
.
The total number of men shot in the dunes is not exactly known.Estimate is 280.Not all bodies were recovered after the war because they were shot at 'just a place'.
