Of the Nikkor pro-sumer lenses, which is the sharpest? I have the pro gear but want to put together a lightweight outfit for the beach, etc. Which of the small zooms is the best? Which is the best body for this purpose, the D90, the D5000, or the D3000?

not sure what you'd call prosumer. if you can come with an initial list of what you're considering that would be helpful.

best for what? weight? sharpness? focal distance range?

I still think one of the best Nikon "prosumer" walk-around lenses out there is the 18-70. Metal mount, sharp as a tack, light, and perfect walk around range. That lens is all my brother uses with his D70s. Can be had for $200 or less, and it's worth twice that!!!

Don,
the 28-105 is very nice. Even has a macro switch...
we have 2, we liked it so much!

We also have several D70s cameras which perform well, and reasonably
lightweight. But I think you are looking for a more modern camera in
you listing...

A camera with video might also prove useful...(??)

I have 16-85 which is great lens, except it is slow, but recently I am almost only using 35 AF-S. It is light, sharp, good for low light, has fast focus speed, solid DOF.
