So far after 10 shots I love the bokeh on this lens.

Of course shooting at 1.4 is razor thin but getting near 2 is really sharp.

But the bokeh on this thing is comparable with some of the very high priced lenses around, canon or nikon!

It's not huge on the lens, but for a prime I suppose it is.

Wow, impressive all around. Really looks like sigma is stepping up their game as a 3rd party player. I got the 30/1.4 and love it. May take a while to save up for the 50 though.

On a side note, does this lens behave(color/background rendering) differently on DX/FX formats?

Congrats, Matt. It's a fine fine lens. It also handles CA pretty well when shooting wide open, don't you think?

  4. Good stuff. The Sigma looks really nice, both lens and image quality. I'll wait for the 50 AFS version though and see how it pans out. Honestly once the Nikon AFS version comes out, I'm sure it will be a matter of personal taste between the two lenses, as everything I've seen out of the Sigma is stellar.

    i believe it does Francis.

I believe those two shots were shot raw and i didn't notice anything.

    Tim,

I am not sure not sure on that one. I shot these in FX.

    Here is another shot

Wow that background is dreamy, your daugther just POPS out. Curious to know if the D3 adds that something extra or not.

BTW, saw you shot the Northridge/Layton game. You do alot of work up at this end of Utah?

Well that was our game of the week for maxpreps here in Utah. This week I will be covering the Copper Hills @ Hunter game.

I am not sure as I only shoot the D3, maybe someone who has the D300 and the D3 can compare.

funny, the main reason I bought the Sig 50 1.4 is to shoot my 1 year old son.... :)

with out a doubt that is why I got the 50. The 20 was just to wide for me. I wanted something a little bit tighter and the 50 was perfect. I had the nikon 85 before and it was a touch long.

  14. What cool shots. Love the 2nd one. That's attitude lol.

    Beautiful images!

Are there any known front / back focusing problems with this 50mm lens?

  16. Nice shots, I would say that is a match for your camera.

I really am loving this lens. The bokeh is so creamy, it reminds me of some very high priced lenses for a 1/3 of the cost.

Here are 3 more for ya to demonstrate the bokeh of the lens. All shots were F1.4
