Western Snowy Plovers - big

The endangered Western Snowy Plover. These small, well camouflaged birds need our help. If you live on the west coast, do a search on Snow Plovers and find a local group doing conservation work. These birds were photographed during the winter on the San Mateo county coast.

Very nice caputures of a shorebird that is quite rare to get close to around here.

Thanks. Yes these birds are very skittish and difficult to approach and it's important not to get into their "comfort zone" and harass them, so a long lens is a must. Unfortunately the beach where I found these - although a State beach with a leash law - these birds were periodically chased by dogs, whereas they don't see people as a threat, as long as you keep a distance. In fact, one bird actually fell asleep in front of me!
