I just picked up my new D700 and I'm having a hard time configuring the "Set Picture Control". I'm not liking the the standard settings or the new ones from the Nikon site. I know that everyone's has their own taste, but if you wouldn't mind posting your setting for People.

    Thank you.

Someone sent this to me and it seems to work pretty good although I've been experimenting a little with the sharpening. (8 seems like a lot to me. ) I shot a wedding last week and it looked great or great even at 8.

    ___________

Set your LCD brightness to -1 ,(find it in Setup Menu. )
0 is too bright and not close to what we actually see.

    2. Set your white balance to A. (automatic).

    3. In Shooting menu go to set picture control and make these settings:

    Go to neutral:.
    1. Sharpening to 8
    2. Contrast to +1 ( 1 click to right of 0)
    3. Brightness to 0
    4. Saturation to 0
    5. Hue to -1 ( 1 click to the left of 0)

    That's it.

    This is what I use:
Best for people is Portrait mode.
Leave it there and shoot raw.
Then make accurate WB measurement in Lr or NX2.
Then (in Lr2) decrease contrast, increase slightly exposure,
    increase sharpening, increase Fill Light,
    increase Recovery, increase slightly Blacks,
clarity, vibrance, don't forget camera profile...

    I also use a D200 for skintones:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Thanks John, can you explain the #'s. I'm assuming you mean that the middle is already on zero.

Orfeas, I don't have lightroom but I use NX2. I'll play with that more.

    Yeah, Brad.

One click left (for minus) or right (for plus) from center.

John/Mark - I must have shot off about 100 pics and checking NX2 after each, and what
I've come up with so far is:
    Neutral
    1. Sharpening 7
    2. Contrast -1
    3. Brightness 0
    4. Saturation 0
    5. Hue -1

I like the way Hue -1 give a little bit of red color to skin. So far it's a toss up bt. -1 & 0 on Contrast.
