What lens are you putting on your D700?

I know a lot of people around here are going to tell me their 2.8 Zooms, The trifecta, why would you use anything but "pro" glass but this is my question. What lens are you going to have on your D700 most?

I do not want to carry around the 24-70 all the time, I would like to carry around something a little lighter. I am intrigued by the Tammy 28-300 VC but I have seen some really good results with the 24-120 also (which suprises me).

So, what lens are you putting on your 700 and if you have any examples, I am open to those as well.
Thanks and have a great day!

Honestly, I will use the 24-70 most of the time. I have yet to identify my party/vacation lens (in the past these were the 18-200 and 16-85VR)... And I will wait until Photokina to see if anything interesting is released... I just shot a rather extensive set of images over five days, and used the 24-70 and 14-24 most of the time... No worries and great images...

I shoot mostly primes and the D700 is a breeze with MF lenses. I am using my 28 2.0 AIS, 58 1.2 Noct, 20 2.8 AF, 85 1.4 AFD and 180 2.8 AF. I will continue to use my D300 on my telephotos. Now for the obligatory walk around zoom, I got the 24-85 AFS G. It it small and light and has excellent reviews from the well known sites. The 24-70 looks awesome but like I said, I am a prime shooter.

Hi.

I plan to go in Pete's direction, when I get my D700.

My D300 will stay for my long-lens-wildlife-shots, where I appreciate the DX-crop, but for my D700-walkaround I think of:

- Nikon 2.8/20 mm or Zeiss 35/18 mm
- Nikon or Zeiss 2.0/35 mm
- Nikon 1.8/50 mm (already in my pocket)
- Nikon 1.8/85 mm

I love my 17-55 on the D300, but I maybe give up this focal length on DX. Perhaps I trade it for a 28-70 AF-S (a.k.a. "The Beast"), when I swich to FX completely some time later ...

Regards,

Mattes

I sold my wide DX glass (11-16/2.8 & 17-55/2.8) to help fund the D700- so I will be using my old 35-70/2.8 for a bit and maybe pick up a 24/2.8 prime or a cheap zoom for the short term. My bank account has to recover before I start sniffing around any of the new FX glass.
