I'm selling a lens and will have about $500 in my paypal account in 60 days when my cashback money goes in with it. If my other lens sells it will be about $600. Looking at the gear I have in my sig, what would you purchase next?

Are you selling one of lenses in your signature?

No, I have a Tamron 70-300 that's basically NIB for sale. I took it out long enough to look it over and snap a few shots and that's it.

Brand new lens taken out of the box one time for a couple of test shots. Nikon mount. Includes a Hoya UV filter as well.

Ever lust for a fast 2.8 zoom like the 17-55 or 28-70?

opps... sorry I forgot that you'll have $600 to spend. In that case, I'd also sell the 18-200 VR and combine that money with the $600 and get either of the above mentioned lenses.

Eventually I'd like to own a nice selection of pro level lenses. I'm not sure I'd want a jump from 70 to 135 though and would have that gap if I let the 18-200 go.

I would consider selling the sigma 135-400 and think about a high end prime in the 300 f4 AFS area with a 1.4, you will have a better long range kit then.

Or wait and see if the rumors are true about a nikon 24-120VR f4 constant lens. That would be a nice lens.

I don't have anything specific I shoot other than family stuff, just whatever strikes me. It's too hot to be out much right now but when it's more tolerable I want to do some walkabout shooting for one thing. Also, when I go back out on the road in a couple of weeks I hope to get some nice random shots as I travel.

At $400 or $1025 for 85 f1.8 or f1.4 I think it would have to be the 1.8 for a while.

  13. 85 1.8 used is 300
    85 1.4 used is 850

still start w/ the 1.8, I did and most do
then u can appreciate the 1.4 more

I may have my 85 1.8 avail when I finish testing the 1.4

It really depends on what you use. Download exposureplot (http://www.cpr.demon.nl/prog_plotf.html) and you can see what focal lengths you use most at the moment.

If you have use for a telephoto, I like Wade's suggestions:
"selling the sigma 135-400...high end prime in the 300 f4 AFS area with a 1.4"

"Or wait and see if the rumors are true about a nikon 24-120VR f4 constant lens. That would be a nice lens."

You have a few primes (you've got a similar selection to me), and if you like changing them and sticking with one lens for some shots, the 85mm will be good.

I'm more of a zoom kind of guy I think. I have 2 prime, the 30 and 50 and 2 macro, the 60 and 150. I'll probably keep the 2 zooms I have now and add lenses as time goes on.

I probably won't move up to an sb800 for a while. I need to learn the 600 first. I'll be looking into a tripod before an 800.

  18. list it on fm.com and it will go fast....
i listed mine over there for 345 expecting to go down on the price and several people wanted it and fast....
turns out a friend got it and my 50 1.8

strange the way people will pay 345 for a lens that costs 399 new....
