I would like, at some point, to develop a blog page or my own web site, where pictures can be viewed larger than zenfolio

I am not so interested in ordering /printing, but more for viewing

who do you use/ recommend ?

TIA

Most serious website owners/bloggers don't really use a specific company for anything other than hosting. Something like www.bluehost.com is good and inexpensive. There are a lot of them out there though.

Once you get a host and buy a domain name you'd have to setup a website of some kind. Common "content management systems" (CMS) right now include Drupal, Joomla, Wordpress, etc. I use Drupal (initial setup is not for the novice) and have been very happy with it. Most CMS apps use a SQL database as a backend and once setup have very nice web based configuration and content creation that's easy for anyone to use.

If you're just wanting a simple blog without your own domain, checkout www.blogger.com or www.livejournal.com.

I use Bluehost and Wordpress on it. I'm not very good with CSS myself, otherwise I'd develop my own system. Right now I have a customized Wordpress blog that I based off a template.

For those of you savy in Photoshop here is a great link. http://www.medialab.com/sitegrinder/ The program works great and is real easy to use. More advanced people will usually go through and clean up the code a bit but it works great either way.

Pixelpost is pretty good for photoblogs (it's what I used for mine) and you can use something like Coppermine Photo Gallery for a pretty simple gallery.

I use Wordpress too: http://chris101.nikongear.com/
I find Wordpress to be unnecessarily complex when managing multiple users. But it is a fun environment to experiment in.

I also use a custom CMS built by Propeller:
http://www.pc.maricopa.edu/index.php?page=29&subpage=577
It is extremely versatile and very easy to keep a complex common thread, but talk about S L O W development! I can take a nap waiting to publish!

For my personal blog, I chose Radio Userland:
http://radio.weblogs.com/0101365/
Customizable to the max! But having the entire blog located on my own computer mens that I cannot update it from any other location! But it IS secure this way.

Finally I use Photoshop's Web Gallery and Apple's Dot Mac (I mean mobileme.com  ) to publish simple photo galleries. For example:
http://homepage.mac.com/cheilman1/
This is a very quick way to put a set of pictures up on the web without any "programming" at all. And only a smal set of customizable options as well, so I don't have to do a lot of planning.

I think I have a couple more blogs out there too, but I can't think of them at the moment....
